Hi Stefan

I'm not able to look at the project pages describing the process of getting the WA hansard online, so I have a question for you. Is there a request already in with WA parliament to clear copyright for republishing the WA State Government hansard online?

OpenAustralia is putting in requests with all the other States and Territories to be ready for the time when we're able to bring these online, but I've not contacted WA yet in case you were already dealing with this. So if this is something that has not yet been requested for WA, or if the request has not been dealt with by the WA Government at this time, I'll get on with this one too.

I've followed up with @Stefan who was last chasing up better access to the WA Hansard

A little background on the WA Hansard: Some while ago we were contacted by Stefan Szo from the Community & Public Sector Union Civil Service Association of WA who was interested in potentially sponsoring the development of adding WA Hansard to OpenAustralia. He in turn contacted the WA Hansard through the union membership (I think).

The contact that resulted is Belinda Corey at WA Hansard. We asked for permission through her to republish but never received final official approval. Also, we asked for whether we could have access to better underlying data rather than the pdf's (I think) that they currently supply. Several follow ups from me and no further news.

The latest was that Stefan Szo was going to chase it up again.

Basically, very little in the way of anything concrete for the WA Hansard.

The last email I have received from Belinda Corey is dated 25 Feb and says that there should be no privilege or copyright issues with us using the Hansard records for WA but that it still needs to be put to the Presiding Officers.

I would republish the email here but the email footer specifically disallows that. So, I won't do it.
