Description

when you view the rss feed of applications on a map, the entry doesn't link to further information in the description nor a link to the application's page, which then leads back to the planning authority's website. At the moment it just links back to planningalerts.org.au which is not very useful to the user. See example attached

pasted into http://maps.google.com.au/

I'm fairly certain that this is an issue with Google Maps. If you look at the source of the rss feed itself it does contain the link back to the application page. It's just that Google Maps for some reason has decided not to respect that link.

Despite a fair amount of Googling and searching through the documentation for Google Maps I can't find any reference to what it does and doesn't support from GeoRSS nor any information about how it displays the information.

The other approach (Thanks Henare!) is to add an optional parameter to the rss feed to expand the content to include a link back to the page with more information.

I've confirmed that it is possible to embed links in the content of a georss feed which then appear in Google Maps when you have an rss feed. e.g. See http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=http:%2F%2Fwww.earthpublisher.com%2Fgeorss.php&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=64.025309,135.263672&ie=UTF8&ll=66.018018,-34.453125&spn=35.330599,135.263672&t=h&z=4&iwloc=geoxml_1

FYI I just noticed that our Election Leaflets feeds do link properly - Google looks at <guid> and if isPermaLink="true" it seems to do the link thing :-/
